Young, Garrison lead Del City boys past Midwest City

Brandon Garrison wasn't worried about Midwest City's full-court press.

Hoping to not lose the momentum they had gained, the Bombers tried to slow down the Del City with a trap defense. But the Eagles were unfazed with the added pressure and quickly made a pass to Garrison who had slipped through the defense

All alone on the opposite end, Garrison reared back and threw down a powerful one-handed slam that set the crowd inside the John Smith field house into a frenzy.

Garrison's dunk sealed Del City's hard- f ought 84- 75 win over Midwest City on Tuesday night. Midwest City went on a big run in the fourth quarter to close the gap but Keyondre Young,

Garrison and the rest of the Eagles found their rhythm to push past the Bombers in the fourth quarter.

“These type of games, your kids kind of lose a little adrenaline because they're so excited about the game and I told them about that at halftime,” Del City coach Lenny Hatchett said. “I thought we finally settled down a little bit in that second half and our shape started coming into play and we made some stops when we needed.”

Midwest City girls down Del City with flurry of 3-pointers

LaTasha Mitchell received the pass and let the 3-pointer fly from the left-wing. As the ball dropped through the cylinder, the Bombers bench stood and emphatically clapped as another 3-pointer had fallen.

After making just one 3-pointer in the first quarter as a team, the Bombers put in eight 3- pointer sin the second half to go on a big third-quarter surge that proved to be too much for Del City to overcome.

Midwest City bested Del City 62-39 at the John Smith gymnasium on Tuesday night. Myracle Washington finished with 19 points after knocking down five

3-pointers. Kennedi Grant followed her with 12 total points.

“We started to trust each other again,” Midwest City coach Megan Maloy said. “In the first half, we rushed a lot of shots and that's not our style of play. And so we finally started slowing down and took a deep breath at halftime and t hen started trusting in each other.”

With the win, No .8 Midwest City improves to 8-3 on the season.
