Sooners have very little football history with MAC
OU football soon can check off another from its list of major-college opponents that never have shared a field with the Sooners.
OU revealed last week that it will host Kent State on Sept. 10, 2022. The Sooners and Golden Flashes never have played. In fact, Kent State will become just the fourth Mid-American Conference program to compete against OU.
The Sooners beat Akron 41-3 in 2015, Ball State 62-6 in 2011 and Bowling Green State 40-24 in 2004.
OU's three games against the MAC are the fewest against any Division I-A conference. Although it's close. The Sooners have played just four games against Sun Belt Conference teams, going 2-0 against both Louisiana-Monroe (2013, 2016) and Arkansas State (1992, 2000).
That number increases i n 2023, according t o
AStateNation, which in December reported that Arkansas State will play at OU in 2023, with a payoff of $1.35 million. To add Arkansas State in 2023, OU moved a game against Illinois State from 2023 to 2025.
OU is 20-0 against schools now in Conference USA, with Rice (7-0), North Texas (5-0) and Texas-El Paso (4-0) the most common opponents. The Sooners are 1-0 against each of Middle Tennessee State,
Alabama-Birmingham, Louisiana Tech and Florida Atlantic.
The Sooners are 13-2 against teams now in the Mountain West. OU is 5-0 vs. Utah State; 2-0 against both Wyoming and Air Force; 1-0 vs. each of New Mexico, Hawaii and Fresno State; 1-1 vs. San Diego State (losing in 1996); and 0-1 vs. Boise State (maybe you remember the Fiesta Bowl from the 2006 season).
An dO U is 30-8-2 all- time against teams now in the American Conference. More than half of that is against Tulsa (16-5-1). OU also is 5-1-1 vs. Southern Methodist, 3-1 vs. Houston, 2-0 vs. Cincinnati, 1-1 vs. Temple (with a 14-7 loss in 1942) and 1-0 vs. Navy, Tulane and South Florida.
