Kenneth Cross

OKLAHOMA CITY - Kenneth Lee Cross 91, passed away at his home in OKC. Kenneth was born at home in the rural area near Beardon, OK in Okfuskee County, to Charlie and Jewel Cross. He was the third born of seven kids. He had five sisters and one brother.

He grew up in that rural environment exploring the woods, creeks, and farmland. In those times, work was hard to come by but he found jobs at the grain elevators and wheat harvest and anything that was available.

He remembered Internment Camps in the country around his home for German prisoners during WWII.

In 1947 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. The name was changed to U.S.A.F. while he was in the service.

Boot camp in San Antonio during the summer months was brutally hot. After boot camp he was stationed at Lowry AFB in Denver, CO and in Geneva NY at Sampson Air Base. He completed his service with a rank of Staff SGT. Kenneth was assigned to non- combat training as a range officer in small arms ordinance.

He met the love of his life in Ona Jean Loman and they were married on May 19, 1951. A marriage that lasted nearly 70 years, produced two very proud sons. Kenneth Charles Cross was born Oct. 19, 1952 and Mark Alan Cross was born June 2, 1956.

After the service Kenneth took employment in Civil Service at TAFB in MWC, OK. He was an electrician and became efficient at trouble shooting and completing maintenance on equipment used to build and modify planes. Kenneth completed multiple training on Binary Coding Equipment and specifics to engineered equipment. He climbed the ranks to a Unit Supervisor over an area that included all crafts and building maintenance. After 25 yrs. of Civil Service he retired from the high stress of that supervisory position. He continued to work doing electrical maintenance at a container manufacturing plant. Kenneth taught trade classes at Vo-Tech Level for high school kids. For a time Kenneth was on the school board for Crooked Oak High School in OKC. Also for a time he was employed as an electrical inspector for OKC on new construction and remodel projects. He was a craftsman, teacher and mentor.

Kenneth made time for hobbies as well. He loved to fish, golf, and coach Little League Baseball. He was a caring, loving man and he will be missed.

Graveside service will be held Sat. 2-27-2021, at 2 P.M. at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
