Class 2A: Perry, Cashion trails Walters for the lead after two
Walters took a commanding lead in the Class 2A state tournament at Earlywine Golf Club in Moore. With no player hitting above 90, Walters has earned a team total of 307 in the first round and then followed it with 319 in the second.
Walters sit at 626 –– a big lead –– heading into tomorrow. Walters coach John Nease said the good performance has much to do with his team being back together after four of his golfers have been away from golf.
Not too far behind is Cashion. The Wildcats hit 328 in the first round behind second-bagger Camden Maroney’s 80 and fifth-bagger Jake Wickerson shooting an 82. But the Wildcat’s turned it on in the second round. Each golfer hitting slightly better than in the first round, putting Cashion at 650 and 24 strokes behind Walters.
With one more round to go on Tuesday, Cashion will have a chance to battle for the lead but it will take some really good play down the stretch. Perry also trails them at 664.
