LIVESTOCK
Livestock report from the Oklahoma City Stockyards:
Receipts: 8,600; Last week: 7,184; Last year: 7,326 Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers $2-$5 higher. Steer calves $4-$6 higher. Heifer calves $1-$4 higher. Demand moderate to good for feeder cattle. Demand is very good for calves despite the high heat and humidity. Cattle futures closing well into the green today following a fairly neutral Cattle on Feed report on Friday. Cattle Inventory report was also issued Friday and once again posting lighter beef cow and beef replacement heifer numbers. This is some indication we could be looking at a tighter inventory going forward. Quality is mostly average but large strings of cattle continue to come off the grass. Note: Market trends and numbers are thru 3:30 pm and do not reflect the full day's activities.
