Pirates at CUBS (late): Cubs manager David Ross and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer have tested positive for COVID-19. A spokesman for the team said Ross and Hoyer are feeling fine and quarantining.
Orioles at YANKEES (late): The Orioles have 63 home runs as a team this season on the road, the fewest in the American League.
Mets at NATIONALS (late): Pinchhitter Dominic Smith broke a seventhinning tie with an RBI single and the Mets beat the Marlins 4-3 on Thursday for their fifth straight victory. Marlins leadoff batter Miguel Rojas and Mets counterpart Jonathan Villar each homered on the first pitch they saw.
Athletics at BLUE JAYS (late): Jed Lowrie hit a three-run homer in the first for the first of Oakland’s eight two-out runs against Matt Manning in the Athletics’ 8-6 victory over the Tigers on Thursday.
Cleveland at RED SOX (late): Triston McKenzie limited Kansas City to a run and two hits over six innings and Cleveland beat the Royals 4-2 on Thursday. Owen Miller hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning.
Tigers at REDS (late): The Tigers lead American League bullpens with a 2.22 ERA since Aug. 20. The all-time series between these two teams is tied 16-16.
Phillies at MARLINS (late): Andrew McCutchen drove in four runs and the Phillies erased a six-run deficit against the Nationals to earn a 7-6 victory on Thursday and a three-game sweep. The Phillies overcame a disappointing start from Aaron Nola.
Twins at RAYS (late): Eduardo Rodriguez pitched four-hit ball into the seventh, and Red Sox beat Tampa Bay 4-0 on Thursday for a split of their fourgame series with AL East-leading Rays.
White Sox at ROYALS (late): Kansas City hosts the AL Central leaders after suffering its 11th series sweep of the season, falling to Cleveland 4-2 on Thursday.
Cardinals at BREWERS (late): Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina are set to make their 300th career start as batterymates, fourth-most all-time in MLB history.
Braves at ROCKIES (late): Adam Duvall hit a two-run homer in Atlanta’s threerun fifth inning, and the Braves overcame a grand slam by Charlie Blackmon to beat the Rockies 6-5 on Thursday. Jorge Soler also homered and Austin Riley had a two-run double for Atlanta.
Rangers at ANGELS (late): Angels standout Shohei Ohtani (8-1, 3.00 ERA) will return to the mound for the opener of a four-game home series.
Mariners at DIAMONDBACKS (late): Rookie right-hander Logan Gilbert and four relievers combined to shut out Houston for the second straight day to give the Mariners a 1-0 win over the Astros on Wednesday.
Dodgers at GIANTS (late): Thairo Estrada hit a three-run homer during San Francisco’s four-run eighth inning, and the Giants beat the Brewers 5-1 on Thursday to avoid a four-game sweep. A day after falling out of first place for the first time since May 30, the Giants moved into a tie atop the NL West.
Astros at PADRES (late): Padres pitcher Dinelson Lamet on Wednesday made his first appearance since June 26. Lamet, who was sidelined with right forearm inflammation, worked the fifth inning and struck out two with his fastball reaching 97 mph.
