Wilbur Thomas “W.T.” Butler

OKLAHOMA CITY - Wilbur Thomas Butler went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 6, 2021. W.T. was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma on October 15, 1931 to Charles Daniel and Cecile Louise (Butner) Butler.

W.T. graduated from Butner High School and then attended East Central College in Ada, OK. He had to suspend his education due to an accident and went to work full time.

W.T. later returned to OU after working many years to finish his degree, knowing he needed it to get ahead in life. He was proud of his degree and was always learning. He also had several patents.

W.T.’s career as a petroleum engineer took him to many remote places. While employed with Conoco, W.T. worked in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as a Production Supervisor and Field Superinten­dent for Conoco’s offshore drilling platforms. He later worked with Occidental Petroleum Company and lived in Lima, Peru where he was Director of Operations for production located in the Amazon jungle. He was also self-employed for a number of years in the petroleum industry.

In 1985, W.T. married Georgeann Hawkins and their families became one. He and Georgeann were members of The Quail Springs Church of Christ.

W.T. is survived by his loving wife, Georgeann Butler, children Steven D. Butler and wife Brenda of OKC, OK, Vicki Vardeman and husband Hap of Hobbs, NM, brother, Harold Wayne Butler and wife Barbara of Ardmore, OK, 5 grandchild­ren, 12 great grandchild­ren, 2 great-great grandchild­ren, 2 nephews, church family and a host of loved ones and friends.

A celebratio­n of life service will be Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 2 PM, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
