3-2-1 KICKOFF
NORMAN — Oklahoma hosts Nebraska on Saturday at 11 a.m. in what marks the 50th anniversary of the Game of the Century. The No. 3-ranked Sooners (2-0) are looking to build off a 76-0 win over Western Carolina in Week 2, while the Cornhuskers (2-1) are fresh off a 28-3 win over Buffalo. Here’s a look at some keys to watch when the two teams face off.
3 players to watch
Quarterback Spencer Rattler: After a subpar showing against Tulane in Week 1, Rattler looked much sharper against Western Carolina. The redshirt sophomore racked up 243 passing yards (20-for-26) and five passing touchdowns in just two quarters.
Wide receiver Mario Williams:Williams continues to be a top target for Rattler this season. The freshman wideout recorded 49 yards and a touchdown on four catches in the win over Western Carolina.
Linebacker Shane Whitter: After not playing in Week 1 for what defensive coordinator Alex Grinch described as a lack of accountability both on and off the field, Whitter showed out against Western Carolina by recording three total sacks and recovering a fumble.
2 big questions
Can OU’s defense contain Adrian Martinez? The Nebraska quarterback is averaging a team-high 85 rushing yards per game so far this season. How legit was OU’s Week 2 win? The Sooners looked great against the Catamounts, but they didn’t play a great team.
1 wild prediction
The Sooners’ defense will recover three fumbles. On the 50th anniversary of the famed Game of the Century, it’ll be the Sooners who recover a trio of fumbles to help secure the victory.
