POWER RANKINGS
Well, what a difference a week makes. Texas, riding high off of a home win vs. then ranked Louisiana, headed to SEC country and was promptly blown off the ball in a blowout loss to Arkansas. Oklahoma spent Saturday in a walk-over win over Western Carolina. Iowa State was yet again not ready for intrastate rival Iowa as senior quarterback Brock Purdy tossed three picks. Here’s where we have the Big 12 teams ranked in the power poll.
1. Oklahoma (2-0)
It’s the Sooners league until anyone knocks them off. Lincoln Riley’s crew should feel quite secure about another Big 12 title after the showings of Texas, Iowa State and Oklahoma State.
This week: vs. Nebraska
2. Kansas State (2-0)
Back-to-back wins to start the season propel the Wildcats up this week’s poll. Running back Deuce Vaughn is a star, posting another 100-yard game with three rushing touchdowns
This week: vs. Nevada
3. Oklahoma State (2-0)
Cowboys move up after win over “rival” Tulsa Saturday. With QB Spencer Sanders back starting, do the fighting Mike Gundys have enough juice to compete for a league title?
This week: at Boise State
4. TCU (2-0)
The Horned Frogs were the only team to defeat a Power Five opponent on Saturday, clipping Cal late behind stud running back Zach Evans’ 190 yards rushing.
This week: idle
5. Iowa State (1-1)
Two weeks, two bad games.
The senior-laden team looks a bit off after two games from schools in the state. Perhaps Matt Campbell’s group can once again rebound after an early season setback.
This week: at UNLV
6. Texas (1-1)
The Longhorns got absolutely steamrolled in Fayetteville as the Arkansas offense and defense did whatever they wanted Saturday night. Will the switch at starting quarterback right the ship in Austin?
This week: vs. Rice
7. Texas Tech (2-0)
After an impressive win over Houston in Week 1, the Red Raiders struggled against FCS opponent Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. Eleven Lumberjacks caught balls on Saturday against a weak Tech secondary.
This week: vs. Florida International
8. Baylor (2-0)
Bears sleepwalked through a win over lowly Texas Southern. Bears steamroll to victory behind 420 rushing yards, that saw three Baylor players top 100 yards on the ground.
This week: at Kansas
9. West Virginia (1-1)
The Mountaineers spent Saturday entertaining Long Island University in a 66-0 home romp. West Virginia allowed only 95 total yards vs. the Sharks.
This week: vs. Virginia Tech
10. Kansas (1-1)
The Jayhawks went on the road and played ranked Coastal Carolina in a spirited affair that saw the Chanticleers pull away late. Quarterback Jason Bean showed dual-threat ability with 102 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
