Dale Alfred Cassel was born on July 1,1936 in Verden, Oklahoma during the hottest summer ever recorded in Oklahoma history. His Mother wet cloths to hang in the windows to keep newborn Dale cool. Growing up on a farm in rural Oklahoma, Dale was a hard working young man who enjoyed raising animals and tending crops in their fields. His work ethic as a youth greatly influenced the man he would become. Dale attended Oklahoma A & M which later became Oklahoma State University. While in Stillwater he lived in a boarding house where he helped make meals for the residents, do laundry and study! As a Animal Husbandry major, he especially enjoyed spending time in the barns milking the dairy cows. During the summers he worked for the Jolly Green Giant “up north” with several of his college buddies. Before graduating he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Harman. After the wedding he lived in Stillwater during the week and she lived in Oklahoma City for nursing school at Mercy. After completing their education they moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Dale inspected grain elevators all over the country. After a few years they returned to Oklahoma residing in Wewoka, Geary, Weatherfor­d and El Reno. Dale spent his career working to help make land use more efficient. He served as the Acting Superinten­dent, Bureau of Indian Affairs at Concho for the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribe. Dale retired in 1986 from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Division of Land Operations and began his next career as a general fee appraiser. Woven throughout his lifetime he assisted countless persons with his expertise as a certified IRS Tax Preparer. Dale was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner, a member of the United Methodist Men, the National Active & Retired Federal Employees, and member of the Central Oklahoma Chapter and the National Independen­t Fee Appraisers. Dale was preceded in death by his parents Elbert Emry and Erma Ruth (McDowell) Cassel. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Honey) Harman Cassel of the home in Bentonvill­e. His children: David Cassel & wife Rhonda of Stillwater, Deborah Baker & husband Kenneth of Yukon, Dana Hope & husband Teddy of Bentonvill­e, Arkansas, eight grandchild­ren: Dustin, Darren and Daniel Cassel, Jordan Baker, Kenna (Baker) Jackson, Anna (Hope) Colley, Melissa and Jessica Hope. Seven great-grandchild­ren with one on the way! Dale is also survived by his siblings: John Elden Cassel & wife Mary, Annice Hill & husband Bill, and Betty Pope & husband Terry. Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church in El Reno, Oklahoma at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 25th. Viewing will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 24th at Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or El Reno Masonic Lodge.
