OKC creator’s tale of sister superheros concludes for now
An Oklahoma City creator’s tale of sisters with superpowers concludes this week, but new stories are set to come next year.
The third issue of “Sister Powers,” by Oklahoma City-based writer/artist Mario Wytch, went on sale in comic shops this week.
Wytch is the writer/artist of the series “Sister Powers,” working with cowriter Jeff McClelland.
“Sister Powers” features two sisters who were raised as normal children, but discover they have inherited the superpowers common to their family.
“I wanted to create something that I would enjoy and that I could share with my children. When I was creating this concept, it was something I wanted to share with my daughter,” Wytch said when he appeared on the Keenspot virtual panel for Comic-Con: International 2020.
The coming-of-age tale of two superpowered sisters is the focus of Keenspot’s all-ages series. When Faith and Charity inherit special abilities from their mother, their lives are turned upside down by the consequences. The younger sister can morph into different animals, while the older sister can camouflage herself. She also can give others powers, but she’s not able to control it.
The series has even drawn in other Oklahoma comic creators: The second issue of the miniseries featured a variant cover edition from Oklahoma comic creator Jerry Bennett (“Glamorella’s Daughter”).
This third issue is the end of the story for now. The miniseries will be collected in 2023 with some new and bonus material included.
Also in 2023, the adventures of the sisters will continue with a new, two-issue story arc.
Despite some shipping and COVID-19 delays, Wytch says the story, in the works since 2020, has been received well.
“It’s been great,” Wytch said. “People seem to love it when we can get it to them!”
