OKLAHOMA CITY - Mary Ellen Wells, age 89, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Mary Ellen was born February 4, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to parents John and Mary Grace Wells. She attended Classen High School in her earlier years, graduating in 1951. Furthering her education she went on to attend South Eastern Oklahoma University. Following college Mary Ellen started working for the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company. Starting out at OG&E she worked to process the electric bills. Throughout her years there she worked her way up to become the Assistant to the Controller, even writing their annual reports every year. Mary Ellen was the first female accountant at OG&E, a title she was very proud of. She graciously gave most of her working years to the company, as she never sought out a career elsewhere. After her many years of service to OG&E, she retired in 1992. Mary Ellen was very active in the Alumni Associatio­n and Museum for Classen High School. In her free time she served as an election judge and was a part of the mall walkers at Shepherd Business Center. Mary Ellen had a servant’s heart, and liked to get involved in volunteer work. She volunteere­d at the Senior Center at Will Rogers Park and even helped assist in relief efforts for the Oklahoma City Bombing in April of 1995. Mary Ellen had a passion for gardening and loved all thing flowers. Her family fondly remembers her garden spanning 6 feet or more around her home. Marry Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Grace Wells; Brothers, John William Wells, and Walter Wells. Mary Ellen is survived by her sister-in-law, Peggy Wells; Cousin, Caroline Waterman and husband Paul; Nephews, Robert Wells, John Wells, Bryan Wells, and David Wells; as well as several other extended nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held for Mary Ellen at 3:00 pm, Thursday, April 21st, 2022 at Memorial Park’s Historic Cemetery Chapel located at the entrance of the cemetery with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
