Lola Moreta Kimball

-

OKLAHOMA CITY - Lola Moreta (Williams) Kimball was born on June 5, 1920, in Foss, Oklahoma and died on April 15, 2022, in Oklahoma City at the age of 101. Her parents were Roy J. Williams and Verbie A. (Scott) Williams. Her father liked her middle name, Moreta, so she went by Moreta until the age of 97, when she decided she wanted to be known by her first name, Lola. She was predeceased by her husband, Arden F. Kimball; her only sibling, younger brother Roy J. “R.J.” Williams; and her nephew, Roy Lee Williams.

When Lola was young, her family lived in several small towns in Oklahoma while her father farmed and worked in dry goods stores. They moved to Tulsa where Lola attended Grover Cleveland Middle School and sang in the a cappella choir. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1939. Lola’s family moved to Oklahoma City when her father became the superintendent of his brother’s growing business, the Walter Williams Candy Company (which later became Bunte Candies.) Lola entered the workforce in Oklahoma City, holding various banking jobs over the years.

Lola Moreta met her husband Arden Kimball at the USO. They were married in 1945. He served in the Army and was based at Altus Army Airfield (now Altus Air Force Base.) After Arden completed his Army service, he worked at Carpenter Paper Company in Oklahoma City for 31 years. Lola and Arden enjoyed almost 34 years of marriage before his death at age 61 in 1979. They had no children.

Lola had a strong Christian faith and freely shared her love of Jesus with others. She attended many different churches, mostly Methodist and Baptist, never feeling tied to a particular denomination or congregation.

Music was always important to Lola. She sang and played piano and organ. For many years, Lola went dancing every Thursday evening to the music of Kip Curtis at the old Boulevard Cafeteria in Midtown, where many friends would gather.

Lola Moreta could be feisty at times. It’s fitting that her favorite color was red - - she liked red blouses, red lipstick, red nail polish, and red roses. She enjoyed visiting with the tellers at InterBank on May Ave. Her favorite foods were lemon cakes from Eley’s Foods and chocolate malts from Braum’s. Lola loved animals and always had several pets, mostly dogs. Her last two dogs were dachshunds named Rudy and Judy.

Lola enjoyed her rose gardens, hosting friends and family, and visiting with neighbors. At age 97, Lola moved to Brookdale Village Assisted Living (now Vitality Village.) She was very social and participated in a variety of activities.

Lola Moreta is survived by niece Roxanna Williams Kiefer of Hermiston, Oregon, cousins, and other family. Interment and family memorial gathering were at Rose Hill Mausoleum in Oklahoma City.
