James Earl Goodwin

EDMOND - James Earl Goodwin, MD, 68, of Edmond, Oklahoma was born to LTC (ret) William E. Goodwin and Chieko Tajima (Bonnie) Goodwin on Misawa Air Base, Honshu, Japan, as the oldest of 3 children, on July 3, 1953. Jim went to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in Edmond, Oklahoma. Jim graduated from Texas A&M University in 1979, continuing his education and graduating from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1982. He finished residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Jim practiced as an Internal Medicine Inpatient Hospitalist at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City, where he was the first hospitalist hired when the program began in 2003. His colleagues fondly called him the “patriarch of the hospitalist group.” He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son William Goodwin, son Isaiah Goodwin, stepdaughter Jessica Williams and her husband Aaron, grandsons Junior Warner, London Warner, and Sincere Williams. His brother Robert (Bob) Goodwin and his wife Karleen; nieces and nephews Jeffrey Ahn, Charles Ahn, Nathan Ahn, Christopher Goodwin, Kelly Santa Maria and her husband Vincent; and his close friend Dr. Tim Grode and his wife Susan. He was preceded in death by his son Patrick James Goodwin, his wife Therese Goodwin, his parents LTC (ret) William E. Goodwin and Chieko Tajima (Bonnie) Goodwin, and his sister and brother-in-law Helen and Bob Ahn. His life will be celebrated with a Service on Thursday, May 19, 2022, 12 pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Edmond, OK. Place of interment, Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery of Perry, OK.
