FAB 10 GIRLS BASKETBALL RANKINGS

- —James D. Jackson, Staff writer

With so many Fab 10 teams taking the floor against each other last week, it proved to be one of the most hectic weeks this year. And now many teams are now in different spots. So, let's take a look.

Each week, The Oklahoman's James D. Jackson ranks the Fab 10, the top high school girls basketball teams in the Oklahoma City area. Here are the rankings for Feb. 16-22.

1. Edmond North (22-0)

The Huskies were unfazed once again, posting three more wins last week. Taking down Stillwater, Yukon and Edmond Memorial, the defending champs remain at the top.

Previous rank: 1

2. Putnam City West (18-3)

The Patriots took down their city opponents, Putnam City North and Putnam City, last week. The win streak has now grown to seven games. Only Edmond North and highly ranked out-ofstate opponents have taken them down this season.

Previous rank: 2

3. Tuttle (21-2)

Two big wins over high-ranked opponents in their respective classes last week moves the Tigers up in the standings. It also helped that the teams above Tuttle in the Fab 10 rankings lost. Taking down Weatherford and Amber-Pocasset, Tuttle has now won 14 consecutive games.

Previous rank: 6

4. Bethany (22-1)

The win streak has moved to 12 games after Bethany took down Anadarko, Elk City and Oklahoma Christian School last week. The only team to beat Bethany this year is Tuttle, the only Class 4A team ranked ahead of them in the Fab 10.

Up next: Saturday vs. Bishop McGuinness (districts)

Previous rank: 7

5. Edmond Memorial (18-3)

The Bulldogs dropped a few spots because they are not at full strength. Even so, they managed double-digit wins over Edmond Santa Fe and Southmoore last week. They fell to Edmond North by a large margin but they were without many key players.

Previous rank: 3

6. Midwest City (17-5)

The Bombers took down Ponca City but the loss to Choctaw last week keeps them from moving up. However, they're still one of the best teams in the city area. Previous rank: 5

7. Carl Albert (17-4)

The Titans fall a few spots after the close loss to El Reno last week. But with other dominoes falling as well, Carl Albert remains as the top Class 5A team in the city area. The Titans took down Shawnee by two points on Tuesday. Previous rank: 4

8. Dale (24-1)

With wins over Christian Heritage, Latta and Cashion, Dale completes its regular season on a 24-game win streak. The Pirates continue to impress and move up a spot in the rankings.

Up next: Saturday vs. Wynnewood (districts) Previous rank: 9

9. Washington (22-1)

The Warriors fell to Classen SAS in the final game of their season, snapping the win streak. But Washington remained undefeated against Class 3A opponents (13-0) and that's all that matters now with the postseason here. Up next: Feb. 23 vs. TBA (regionals) Previous rank: 8

10. Bethel (20-3)

As stated last week, if Bethel took down Jones and Christian Heritage it would have a shot at the Fab. 10, and Bethel got it done. Bethel enters the postseason on a nine-game win streak.

Previous rank: Unranked

Just on the outside

El Reno (15-5): El Reno was nearly guaranteed a spot in the top 10 after taking down Carl Albert in a high-caliber matchup. But El Reno fell to Kingfisher three days later. They come in at just the first on the outside of the top ten teams in the city area, regardless of class.

Jones (18-5): Jones has had a tough schedule to finish the season playing both Class 4A top-ranked Lincoln Christian and Class 3A No. 2 Bethel. The Longhorns needed to win out to stay in the top 10, but the 3-point loss to Bethel knocks the defending champs out. Will they get their rematch in the postseason?

Harding Charter Prep (20-3): HCP has been breezing through its final games of the season, winning all three games in the month of February by double digits. However, Harding Charter Prep comes in just one the outside.

Norman (15-4): The Tigers may have gone unnoticed for most of the year but they've found their stride late in the season. On a six-game win streak, Norman makes its debut outside the top 10.
