HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Voting is open for the oklahoman.com high school athlete of the week ballot for Feb. 21-27. Here are the nominees.
Boys basketball
Jacobe Johnson, Sr., Mustang: Johnson delivered in the clutch as Class 6A Mustang slipped past Edmond Memorial, 51-50, to advance to the area tournament. The senior guard finished with 21 points and added eight in the fourth quarter, including the last-second layup that sent the game into overtime. He is up to 1,712 career points.
Carson Jones, Jr., Oklahoma Christian School: Jones erupted for 31 points as Class 4A OCS defeated Elgin, 61-48, for a regional championship. The junior guard went 9 for 15 from the field and 10 for 10 at the free-throw line. He also provided three rebounds and three assists.
Chiante’ Tramble, Jr., Putnam West: Tramble played a massive role in Class 6A Putnam West’s 60-57 upset of Putnam North for a regional title. The junior guard led the Patriots with 19 points and went 6 for 6 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, preventing the Panthers from completing their comeback. He also had four rebounds and four assists.
Girls basketball
Skylar Anderson, Fr., Carl Albert: Anderson played a big role in the Titans winning its regional championship. Anderson averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Addy Johnson, Jr., Edmond Memorial:
Johnson averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals en route to the Bulldogs regional title.
Myracle Washington, Sr., Midwest City: Washington took over for the Bombers to help win the regional title. She averaged 15.5 points and four steals in the two wins.
Boys wrestling
KJ Evans, Sr., Heritage Hall: The OU signee claimed his third Class 4A state title. Evans defeated Tuttle’s Shawn Rounsaville 6-2 in the 150-pound title match Saturday at State Fair Arena.
Braden Hall, Sr., Guthrie: He had a hardfought battle with Carl Albert’s Grant Gober in the Class 5A 150-pound finals. Halls beat Gober 2-1 in a tiebreaker. Payton Thomas, Sr., Moore: The Navy signee finished his senior season with a 35-0 record and beat Stillwater star and Oklahoma State signee AJ Heeg 3-2 in the Class 6A 190-pound finals.
Girls wrestling
Kaylee Davis, Jr., El Reno: She won the 145-pound state title, beating Sapulpa’s Elizabeth Cope 8-0 in the championship.
Ryleigh Lefkowitz, Fr., Putnam City: She capped her impressive debut season at Putnam City with a state championship victory. The 140-pounder beat Tuttle’s Rayleigh Fisher 4-0 in the finals.
Aubrianna Smith, Sr., Westmoore: She claimed the state title at 130 pounds as he pinned Jay’s Ciara Franco-Shrum in the finals.
