Best of Books to host signings, trivia and Santa

Edmond bookstore Best of Books, 1313 E Danforth Rd, is hosting multiple book events and signings:

• USA Today Bestsellin­g author Scarlett St. Clair will be at Best of Books at 6 p.m. Nov. 28 to celebrate the launch of her new fairytale novella, “Mountains Made of Glass.” The signing event will launch the paperback for the new series previously only available in ebook format, this time including special art prints and a bookmark exclusive to Best of Books.

• Best of Books and Belle Isle Library have partnered to host #1 New York Times bestsellin­g author-illustrato­r Jan Brett’s Winter Wonderland Tour at 5 p.m. Dec. 7. Brett will travel across the country via tour bus wrapped in artwork from her books. Brett will be giving a presentati­on and drawing demonstrat­ion. Brett’s books will be for sale at the free event and a book signing will follow the presentati­on.

• Best of Books will host two local authors that put their own spin on two classic Christmas tales from 2 to 4 p.m.

Dec. 3. Meet Keri Salas, author of “It’s a Wonderful Dog”, a holiday “tail” for those who love the season but feel the deep loss of loved ones (both furry and human), and Luke Swanson, author of “Curtains on A Christmas Carol”, a cozy murder mystery that takes place during a theater production of the classic Christmas story.

• Santa is coming to Best of Books for a special storytime at 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 9. Take photos with Santa, make an ornament craft, and listen as we read the new Grinch sequel, “How the Grinch Lost Christmas.” This event is free to attend and open to all.

• Trivia Night returns with Holiday Book Trivia: Family Edition at 6 p.m. Dec. 12. Bring the family out for trivia fun over Christmas classics like “The Polar Express,” “A Christmas Carol,” “The Grinch” and more. This event is free to attend and open to all. Silly sweaters and family jammies are welcome.

Recent books in stores and coming soon with Oklahoma ties

• “In the Morning, the City Is the Prairie ” by Rob Roensch (Belle Point Press, 184 pages, in stores) Matt Bennet, a soulful yet aimless 20somethin­g who has little more to offer than a Costco discount, lives with his parents in Oklahoma City. Confronted by a family health crisis, Matt becomes more attuned to the needs of those he loves, and how he can best fit himself into the world-largely inspired by the more passionate and ambitious young women in his life: his girlfriend, a public school teacher participat­ing in the Oklahoma teachers’ strike of 2018, and his younger sister, a teenage idealist determined to make a difference.

• “Joe Cocker: With a Lot of Help from His Friends” by Mark Bego (Yorkshire Publishing, 264 pages, in stores) In “Joe Cocker: With a LOT of Help from His Friends,” every aspect of the singer’s life and career is examined and explained. Though he was an Academy and Grammy Award winner, Cocker’s life was not always on an uphill track. He suffered from low self-esteem and bouts of depression. It wasn’t until later in his life that he met the love of his life, Pam, who helped him put his personal life back on track before his death in 2014.

• “The Cardinal in the Snow” by John Kenney (Parson’s Porch, 138 pages, in stores)

John Kenney uses personal stories to lead readers through lessons that build upon each other to discover “God’s plan for the next phase of the reader’s life.” With the inclusion of reflection questions and spiritual exercises, this book is both educationa­l and devotional.

• “Bigfoot Watching Woman Watching Bigfoot (An Ele Carmichael Novel)” by M Sparks Clark (Loophole Books, 246 pages, in stores)

When bestsellin­g thriller novelist Ele Carmichael discovers that her longtime love is cheating on her, she buys a luxury cabin in the backwoods of Oklahoma’s Kiamichi Mountains, sight unseen, and promptly moves there, only to discover that someone or something is already living there.
