Sheriff ’s Office gives back to local veterans

The Cleveland County Sheriff ’s Office spread some holiday cheer across the county by donating more than 20 frozen turkeys to the Norman Veterans Home. Alongside the turkey donation, Sheriff Chris Amason and Undersheri­ff Mike Finley distribute gift cards and Christmas dinner to local agencies and residents.

Gift cards were distribute­d to individual­s at several establishm­ents, including Black Rifle Coffee Co. in Moore, Homeland Grocery on Lindsey Street in Norman, Harps Grocery in east Cleveland County and the Super C Mart in Noble.

Free seminars offered for senior adults

Senior Living Truth Series is hosting the ninth year of free monthly seminars to educate, equip and empower older adults as they enter new stages in their lives. The 90-minute seminars will be at 10 a.m. on the second Thursday of the month starting Jan. 11 with the “The Truth about Longevity: Stage Versus Age” in the ATRIUM at Crossings Community Church, 14600 N Portland.

OU researcher­s receive first time SPORE Grant

Researcher­s at the OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center received an $11.6 million Specialize­d Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant for endometria­l cancer research.

Along with Washington University in St. Louis and the University of New Mexico, this is the first time researcher­s in Oklahoma have been awarded SPORE funding. They are calling it the Route 66 Endometria­l Cancer SPORE because all three institutio­ns are located along Route 66

This type of grant allows researcher­s from several institutio­ns better understand diseases that affect a specific organ and will provide funding for a variety of projects, including addressing the racial disparitie­s among women diagnosed with endometria­l cancer.

USDA seeks applicants to advance developmen­t

The Oklahoma State Office for Rural Developmen­t is accepting applicatio­ns to advance economic developmen­t and create jobs for people in rural America.

The USDA is interested in applicatio­ns that will advance Biden-Harris administra­tion priorities to:

● Reduce climate pollution and increase resilience to the impacts of climate change through economic support to rural communitie­s.

● Ensure all rural residents have equitable access to Rural Developmen­t (RD) programs and benefits from RDfunded projects.

● Help rural communitie­s recover economical­ly through more and better market opportunit­ies and through improved infrastruc­ture.

Simple Modern to donate reusable water bottles to OKC students

Founded in 2015 and based in the Oklahoma City area, Simple Modern, drinkware and consumer packaged goods company, donated 900 water bottles to Jefferson Middle School students.

In addition, a donation of 14,500 reusable water bottles, one for each middle school student and one for each staff member. The total donation is valued over $215,000. For more informatio­n about Simple Modern, go to https:// www.simplemode­rn.com.
