William G. Hilsdorf of Oneida

ONEIDA -- William G. Hilsdorf, 91, of Greenlawn on Long Island, N. Y., formerly of Oneida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at the Hospice Inn in Melville, N. Y.

Born on Aug. 16, 1921, in Oneida, N. Y., the son of John C. and Rosemary Hanley Hilsdorf, he received his early education in Oneida and his secondary education in New York City where he moved to as a young boy with his family.

Following the death of his first wife, Hildegard Besgen in 1994, he married Evelyn Paterson Scancarelli on June 1, 2000, in Denver, Colo.

Mr. Hilsdorf was an executive assistant with the Scripps Howard Media Conglomerate serving proudly for over 50 years, retiring in 2000 from their offices in Denver. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Greenlawn, Long Island.

Surviving besides his loving wife Evelyn, of Greenlawn, N. Y., is a niece and two step- sons, Katherine and Robert Scancarelli, and Ralph Scancarelli, all of Long Island.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 beginning with a 10 a. m. Prayer Service at Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida, NY 13421, followed by a 10: 30 a. m. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 121 St. Joseph’s Place, Oneida, with the Rev. Richard J. Kapral, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Oneida. Friends are invited and may call from 9 a. m. until the time of the Prayer Service.
