Verona should reject sewer project
To The Editor:
I recently received a survey from the Town of Verona for or against public sewers in the Verona area. An interest survey was taken in the spring of 2011. The rate of the survey was approximately 55- 75 percent of those responding who said they would be in favor of public sewers. No cost was given on that survey.
Years before that survey, when Mr. Deeley was supervisor, there was a vote for sewers in Verona and it was shot down at that time.
In my opinion I don’t agree with the 2011 figures. I don’t see any figures reflecting that. The total cost for sewers now would be $ 11 million - $ 12 million with grants ( if they get any) which is our money, plus a $ 5 million loan for 38 years at 2.75 percent which I’ll have to pay — my children and grandchildren to pay this off. Plus $ 784-$ 836 per year we would pay on our taxes for sewers.
They are talking of our country going over the cliff — the economy — jobs — which have been there for us for years, yet local and government officials are doing nothing to help us. Let’s see if we can pay to get this done, bridges, roads and better the economy before we talk sewers. People are just surviving now, without such an enormous cost added to us.
Durhamville voted “no” for sewers. I hope Verona does the same. William J. Alessi
