Augusta School, 96, of Canastota
CANASTOTA>> Augusta School, 96, of Canastota passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, at home with loving family and special care givers at her side. Born on Aug. 14, 1918 in West Virginia to the late Vincent and Mary Stracuzzi, Augusta spent her early years in Binghamton, N.Y. and was a graduate of the Cortland Normal School, now SUNY Cortland. In May of 1949 she married Frank J. School at Saint Mary’s Church in Binghamton. She resided in Syracuse prior to moving to Canastota in 1996. She worked for the Office of Price Administration, Syracuse City Schools, the Syracuse Symphony, American Red Cross and the Opportunity Shop in Canastota.
She is survived by her children, Francis (Nancy) School of Manassas, Va., Maria (Anthony) Palamara of Canastota, Joseph (Lindsay) School of Linthicum Heights, Md., and Lisa School-Caloroso of Binghamton, N.Y./ Dundalk, Md.; grandchildren, Michael (Kathleen) School, Molly (Bruno) de Lima-Campos, Stephanie (Brian) Bilzor, Kimberly (Dario) Damore and Jeremy School. Augusta is also survived her sisterin-law, Joan Stracuzzi and by 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Frank who died in 1975, her brothers Samuel, John, Joe, and Herbert and sister Tennie.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at 10 a.m. from Saint Agatha’s Church, with the Rev. Stephen Wirkes as celebrant. Interment will be made in St. Agatha’s Cemetery. There will be no public hours of visitation. The family asks in lieu of flowers contributions be made in Augusta’s memory to the Canastota Opportunity Shop or Greater Lenox Volunteer Ambulance Service.
