The Oneida Daily Dispatch (Oneida, NY)
Let’s set record straight on Republican primary
I would like to extend my gratitude to the individuals who were so supportive during the Republican campaign for Madison County Court judge.
I am compelled to write this letter as a result of information learned through phone calls, visits and being personally stopped in public by individuals regarding the Republican primary for Madison County Court judge.
The right to participate in a primary race is a part of the political process and living in this country.
Unfortunately, I learned that during this process people who had my political signs on their private property were visited by individuals who represented to them that “there is not supposed to be a Republican primary” and “she was not supposed to run,” “there is supposed to be only one Republican candidate” and “why would you want a woman judge?”
I learned from one individual who had pulled his truck up to my vehicle on my way to the Madison County Courthouse that he had put his sign up and was visited THREE times by a member of the Madison County Republican Party and told “she was not supposed to run.”
He gave me thumbs-up and said he would not take down his sign.
I received phone calls and visits from individuals who were told “she has never been a judge.”
It is disheartening to think of the people who I was unable to reach out to who were misinformed or intimidated with false information.
TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT... THE RIGHT TO PRIMARY IS A PART OF AMERICA AND THE RIGHT TO SUPPORT WHO YOU WANT AND NOT BE INTIMIDATED TO TAKEDOWN A SIGN IS PART OF AMERICA.
I, along with the other REPUBLICAN candidates, was asked prior to the Republican endorsement whether I would primary in meetings with Republican Party members.
TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT in all meetings my answer was the SAME answer, YES.
Any statements to the contrary that have been made to any Madison County Republican are FALSE.
During the primary campaign I was told by a Madison County Republican that she had been told that I had only sought the Conservative endorsement after not being endorsed by the Republican Committee after a four-hour vote.
TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, that is also a FALSE statement.
All the Republican as well as Democrat candidates had scheduled interviews with the Conservative party the evening following the Republican endorsement. I had given my word to the Conservative Party that I would be at the interview and kept my word.
When I received the Conservative endorsement the following day I gave my word to the Conservative Party that I would run in the Republican primary, and I kept it, the same as I did when asked by members of the Republican Committee.
My RECORD speaks for itself as 20-plus years as a Family Court attorney in the Madison County Courthouse and, 17 years serving in the public sector as an assistant district attorney in Madison County.
My RECORD on E-Courts of being an attorney who practices in the courtrooms of the MADISON COUNTY COURTHOUSE speaks for itself.
People who had my political signs on their property were visited by individuals who represented to them that “there is supposed to be only one Republican candidate.”
