Red Devils drop pitchers’ duel in 1-0 loss

HOLLANDPAT­ENT1, VERNONVERO­NA-SHERRILL 0 >> The Golden Knights scratched across an unearned run in the top of the third inning, which was enough for Nico Ramos and Nick Palmer who combined to hold the Red Devils to just one hit. ONEIDA4, ROME FREEACADEM­Y 1 >> Oneida used four first-inning singles to score four runs, enough for Ryan Garbry and Jordan Cavallo who combined to throw a four-hitter. CHITTENANG­O 4, PHOENIX 1 >> Matt Milliman and Wyatt Myers drove in two runs apiece for the Bears in the victory. HAMILTON 6, POLAND 1 >> Colin McGaugh tossed a complete game, allowing just one unearned run on two hits with seven strikeouts while also helping his own cause at the plate with two hits and two runs scored. MADISON9, MCGRAW5>> Alex Cotter drove in four runs for the Blue Devils and teammate Tyler Hummer went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs score in the win.

Softball

NEWHARTFOR­D5, CAMDEN1 >> The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the second inning but the Spartans scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on three more in the sixth. ADIRONDACK 2, CANASTOTA 0 >> Rhilea Chabot only allowed five hits in the circle for the Raiders but the unbeaten Wildcats scratched across runs in the first and second innings, which was more than enough for MarisaMcIn­tyre who threw a two-hit shutout. PHOENIX 7, CHITTENANG­O 6 >> The Firebirds scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun the Bears. Six players had two hits for Chittenang­o, including Shayla Muncy and Morgan Shoemaker who each doubled twice in the loss. ONEIDA4, ROME FREEACADEM­Y0>> Emily O’Herien and Kyle Chesebro combined to shut out the Black Knights, allowing just three hits. Natalie Marshall homered and Elizabeth LaSalle went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Oneida in the victory.

WESTMORELA­ND 3, CANASTOTA 2 >> The Raiders took both doubles matches but the Bulldogs’ Tyler Dunning rallied back from a secondset loss to take his first singlesmat­chwith JacoboGonz­alez de Frutos 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. JAMESVILLE-DEWITT7, CHITTENANG­O0>> The Bears only won two games in seven matches against the undefeated Red Rams. MORRISVILL­E- EATON 5, MOUNT MARKHAM 0 >> M-E remained unbeaten in league play, winning every match in straight sets. ONEIDA5, ROME FREEACADEM­Y2 >> Oneida took points in the three doublesmat­ches and got wins from Jordan O’Connell in first singles and AjayHicks inthirdsin­gles in the victory.

Boys Lacrosse

PROCTOR 11, VERNON-VERONA-SHERRILL 8 >> The Red Devils overcame a slow start with four second-quarter goals to even the score at 5-5 going into halftime but couldn’t keep up that pace, scoring just three goals in the second half.

Girls Lacrosse

VERNON-VERONA-SHERRILL 10, NEW HARTFORD 9 (OT) >> Therese Pitman scored five goals for the Red Devils, including the game-winner with 16 seconds to play in the first overtime period.

Boys Golf

WESTMORELA­ND 201, CANASTOTA 238 >> Brady Myers was the Raiders’ medalist, shooting a 55 on the back nine at Kanon Valley while Josh Gubbins shot a 44 for the Bulldogs. WHITESBORO 197, ONEIDA 227>> Brothers Ben and Jack Kallet each shot a one-over par 37 for Oneida at Old Erie but it wasn’t enough to overcome a strong team effort from Whitesboro.

Girls Golf

MARCELLUS2­09, CAZENOVIA 240 >> Erin Howles was the Lakers’ medalist, shooting a 55 at Cazenovia Country Club in the loss.

CHITTENANG­O 16, WHITESBORO 11 >> David Demand scored nine goals for the Bears and teammate Duncan Smith added five goals and three assists in the victory.

Girls Lacrosse

CHITTENANG­O8, CORTLAND 7 >> The Bears took a onegoal lead into halftime and made that advantage stand up in the second half, led by three goals apiece from Nicole Zimmer and Lauren Billington.
