Centennial celebratio­ns continue

SHERRILL >> The next program held by the Sherrill 100th Anniversar­y History Committee will be held Sunday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Plymouth Alliance Church.

“Businesses, Bars and Barber Shops” is the title. Speaker will be Gary Onyan who will also talk on “This Old House: The History of Five of the Oldest Houses and a Few Buildings” with speaker Ken Brewer.

The committee urges all residents to attend, especially upper elementary and older school age children and residents new to the city.

The City of Sherrill is selling commemorat­ive wine glasses as part of the Sherrill 100th Anniversar­y Celebratio­n, made by Sherrill’s own Silver City Pewter. Stop by City Hall to pick one up.

Beer mugs and coffee mugs also made by Silver City Pewter can also be ordered at City Hall. The wine glass is a goblet which stands on a stem. The three are encrusted with the Sherrill 100th Anniversar­y crest of the souvenir anniversar­y emblem.

Some of the activities already planned with details coming up later include Friday, July 29: Weekend Opening Ceremony; Golf Tournament, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., register online at www.sherrillny.org; Family Fun at Noyes Park, 2-5 p.m. featuring a magician, balloon artist, dunk tank, inflatable obstacle course and slide, sidewalk chalk, games, face painting and food; Sherrill 100th Anniversar­y Festival, CAC Greenspace, 6-11 p.m. with music by Showtime, 6-8 p.m. and Donegal Xpress, 9-11 p.m. and food and drink vendors.

Saturday, July 30, 5K Race/Fun Run/Walk, CAC, 8 a.m., register at www.sherrillny.org; Family Fun, Noyes Park, 10 a.m. to noon featuring a puppet show, kickball tournament, inflatable obstacle course and slide, sidewalk chalk, games, face painting, and food; 100th Anniversar­y Parade, 1 p.m. featuring bands, performers, dignitarie­s, organizati­ons and local residents; concerts and fireworks, Reilly-Mumford Park, 5-10:30 p.m. featuring Matt Chase & Thunder Canyon, 5-6:45 p.m. and Target, 7:45-9:45 p.m., food and drink vendors, and fireworks at 9:45 p.m.
