Upstate N.Y. woman becomes top enlisted airman in New York Air National Guard

LATHAM >> A Ballston Spa resident became the top enlisted airman in the New York Ai r National Guard this week.

Chief Master Sgt . Amy Giaquinto was promoted at a ceremony Monday af ternoon at the Division of Military and Naval Affairs headquarte­rs in Latham. Giaquinto, who has deployed to Afghanista­n, is the first woman to hold the position.

As command chief master sergeant Giaquinto is the top enlisted airman among the state’s 5,800-member Air Guard. Giaquinto replaces Chief Master Sgt. Richard D. King who has been the command chief of the New York Air National Guard since 2010.

As command chief of the New York Air National Guard, Giaquinto will report directly to the commander of the Air National on enlisted issues, to include profession­al military education, enlisted promotions, mentorship, morale, family and community relations, as well as esprit de corps.
