Pokemon trainers, get ready to find more Pokemon.

Players of the augmented reality game will have the chance to win prizes and enjoy the company of other virtual creature hunters this weekend in Sherrill during the city’s Pokemon Go events.

During Sherrill’s Centennial Weekend celebration, the city will hold challenges both Friday and Saturday at the Community Activity Center. On Friday, the Catch’em Challenge, players will have from 6-7:30 p.m. to catch as many Pokemon as they can in the Silver City. Trainers will then return to the CAC to have their virtual creatures tallied. The top two players will receive either an iTunes or VISA gift card. Players will also compete to see who caught the Pokemon with the highest Combat Power within the time limit. Those two winners will also receive a gift card.

On Saturday, there will be a Sherrill City Hall Gym Leaders challenge. Pokemon Go has established a gym at City Hall with two pokestops nearby at the Veteran’s Memorial and Reilly-Mumford Memorial. At 5 p.m., up to four gym leaders who control the City Hall will receive an iTunes or Visa gift card. Lures will be dropped at both pokestops from 2-5 p.m. to give players a chance at catching more Pokemon.

In Oneida, the Kallet Civic Center will hold a Pokemon gym battle on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 1-4 p.m. Players can battle it out for control of the Kallet gym, or sit back and enjoy a showing of “Pokemon The Movie” at 1:30 p.m. There will be charging stations and Wi-Fi available. Admission is $1.
