Canastota Library

The Friends of the Canastota Public Library are busy preparing for this year’s annual book sale. The sale, which will be held Oct. 27-29, is a highlight of autumn in the Canastota community.

“We’ve had many local residents donate books to us this year. Our Friends have been working almost daily to sort and catalog these for the sale,” noted Liz Metzger, director of the library. Volunteers make this event a special one for the library. The Friends are made up of volunteers who have helped to prepare for the sale and also work for many hours for the sale. Raffle baskets are designed by some volunteers and donated in an effort to earn additional revenues. Also, a local organization, Ralston Supply Co. will provide the tables needed to hold the event.

The money raised through this sale is always used to benefit the library’s programs, collection or enhance the building and services that the library offers. In previous years the money raised has been used to purchase new blinds and curtains for the Carnegie Room, a dishwasher for the community kitchen and assistance in purchasing the laptop com- puters that patrons may use throughout the library. A portion of the funds raised during last year’s book sale was also earmarked for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to offset the cost of mailing books to those youngsters in the program.

Times for the sale are Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 2016 romantic comedy stars Jeannie Berlin, Steve Carell, Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Kristen Stewart, Corey Stall and Ken Stoff.

Set in the 1930s, the film centers on Bobby Dortman, a young man who moves to Los Angeles and falls in love with his talent agent uncle’s assistant, Vonnie. When she leaves him for another man, a heartbroken Bobby returns home to the Bronx. Back in New York City, he begins to run a high-end nightclub with his gangster brother, Ben. Bobby transforms the club, Les Tropiques, into a famous hangout for the rich and powerful. He is introduced to the alluring socialite Veronica and romance ensues. Bobby’s life is turned upside down by the unexpected arrival of his old flame, Vonnie.
