Man charged with child porn

A Smithfield man is facing felony charges after police discovered child pornographic images in his possession.

Members of the MadisonCounty Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Computer CrimesUnit arrestedMason L. Berry, 39, of Glass Factory Road in the Town of Smithfield on one count of promoting a sexual performance by a child, a class D felony, and one count of possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class E felony.

Police say Berry possessed digital images of a child engaged in a lewd exhibition and also promoted a sexual performance of a child by distributing the digital files.

Berry was arraigned in Smithfield Town Court and held in Madison County Jail on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond; he has since posted bond. Berry is scheduled to re-appear at court again on Nov. 14.
