NY Farm Show begins today

GEDDES, N.Y. >> The New York State Fairground­s is finalizing preparatio­ns for an influx of farmers.

The New York Farm Show, one of the largest farm shows in the Northeast, will return to the New York State Fairground­s today through Saturday.

This year, the New York Farm Show sold out space to its more than 400 exhibitors by mid-January, earlier than any other year prior.

The Farm Show occupies more than 220,000 square feet of space in six buildings across the

grounds, and draws exhibitors and crowds from Ohio, Maryland, Delaware and all of New England. Annual visitors to the Farm Show will be introduced, for the first time, to the improvemen­ts made to the Fairground­s as a result of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s $50 million transforma­tion plan to increase economic activity and draw tourism to the region.

“For more than 30 years, people from across the Northeast have been coming to the New York Farm Show to get a look at some of the most innovative agricultur­al developmen­ts that are helping our farmers work better and more efficientl­y.” State Agricultur­e Commission­er Richard Ball said, “This year’s show, hosted by the reinvigora­ted New York State Fairground­s, will provide an even wider appeal for exhibitors and vendors and will help bring an economic boost to the region.”

The 32nd annual Farm Show will feature the latest innovation­s in agricultur­al equipment, as well as services and products targeted specifical­ly for farm operators of the Northeast. A number of other organizati­ons will be offering workshops and presentati­ons on forest management, agricultur­al safety programs, dairy robotic milking systems and related technologi­es, beef production and marketing. The New York State Department of Agricultur­e and Markets’ Division of Animal Industry will also be in attendance, educating visitors about livestock identifica­tion and promoting biosecurit­y measures to help farmers prevent the spread of avian influenza.

The New York Farm Show is open from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.

Admission to the show is $5 for adults and children under 18 are free. In addition, tickets are available at any Northeast Equipment Dealership. Parking is free and shuttle buses will be available throughout the Fairground­s.

The show will be held in the Exhibit Center, Center of Progress Building, Horticultu­re Building, Science & Industry Building, Internatio­nal Building, and Art & Home Center.
