Melvyn ‘Mel’ C. Smith, 43, of Camden

CAMDEN>> Melvyn ‘Mel’ C. Smith, 43, of Camden, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Remsen, N.Y.

He was born on July 2, 1973 in Liberty, N.Y., a son of Melvyn B. and Patricia Allison Smith. Mel was a 1992 graduate of Camden High School; he then attended NTTS (National Tractor Trailer School). On June 7, 2008, he married Tina Price Smith in Blossvale, N.Y.

‘Mel Jr.’ was employed as a truck driver by Halpin’s Fuel Co., Forestport, N.Y. and previously drove for A.J.T. Trucking, Oneida, N.Y. for more than 10 years. He was an avid hunter and was always happy to be in the woods. Melvyn enjoyed truck pulling competitio­ns, monster trucks, and was an active participan­t in Half Breed Motor Sports with Ben Carmon.

‘Little Mel’ is survived by Tina Price Smith, Camden, N.Y.; his mother, Patricia and Ron Chase, Blossvale, N.Y.; his father, Mel and Jody Smith, Remsen, N.Y.; a companion, Kate Payne, Rome, N.Y.; three brothers, Bobby Smith, Blossvale, N.Y., Craig and Amy Smith, Remsen, N.Y., and Keith Smith, Hilton Head, S.C.; and a nephew, Charlie Smith; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, from the LaRobardie­re Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, N.Y. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home, 109 Main St., from 1-4 p.m. prior to the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Mel Smith Memorial Fund, c/o Americu Credit Union, 1916 Black River Blvd., Rome, N.Y. for an award to be presented at the Shootout Production­s annual awards banquet.
