CANASTOTA>> Donald F. Stich, 78, of Charles Avenue, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a medical patient for the past two days.

Born in Oneida on March 17, 1938, he was the son of Frank and Leona Dunham Stich. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1956.

Don retired after 36 years with the Carrier Corporatio­n and then went on to work as a Madison County Court Officer for 12 years and also was employed with Casol- wood Golf Course. He was a member of the First Presbyteri­an Church of Oneida, the Past Master of the TriValley Masonic Lodge, Lodge 148, a member of the Canastota Lions Club, a member of the Canastota American Legion, Post 140 who loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy serving on air craft carriers from 1956 – 1960.

Surviving are six daughters, Janice Stich and her partner, Barry Holden of Oneonta, Jennifer and her husband, Eric Van Rys- dam of Buffalo, Amanda and her husband, Jonathan Hastings of Rochester, April Stich of Rochester, Amy Stich and spouse, Robin Boyko of Chicago, Ill., and Carolyn and her husband, Javi Perez of St. Louis; two sons, Stephen D. Stich and his wife Mary of Scotia and Frank R. Stich and his wife, Lynn of Palenville; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Crinny Stich of Tallahasee, Fla.; one brother-in-law, William Sammons of Pittsfield, Mass.; eleven grandchild­ren, eight great grandchild­ren and several nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by two sisters, Beverly Mathews on Sept. 1, 2008 and Alice Sammons on Dec. 26, 2008. Donald’s personal motto was “Fam- ily first – Always!”

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday from the First Presbyteri­an Church, corner of Broad and Stone Street, Oneida, with the Rev. Stuart Wattles, officiatin­g. Interment will be made in Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 S. Peterboro St., Canastota 4-7 p.m. Monday.
