Irving W. Bielby, 84, of Oneida

ONEIDA>> Irving W. Bielby, 84, passed away at his home in Oneida, N.Y. on March 17, 2017.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1933, in Rome, N.Y., the son of Richard and Emma Watson Bielby. He married Elaine Burkhart on May 25, 1958 in Barneveld, N.Y. She died on Sept. 15, 2015.

He was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic, retiring in October 1994. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 82nd Airborne from 19501954, and also served in the Air Force from 1956-1959. He was a member of the Oneida American Legion Post 169.

Mr. Bielby is survived by three sons, William and Dawn Bielby, Raleigh, N.C., Jeffrey Bielby, Rome, N.Y. and Claude and Joanne Bielby, Oneida, N.Y.; two daughters, Donna and Ed Leonard II, Canastota, N.Y. and Emma and Wayne Coe, Durhamville, N.Y.; one brother, Kenneth and Christine Bielby, Oneida, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed his time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 5 p.m. at the CoolicanMcSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida, with pastor Katie Yahns, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Verona, officiating. Calling hours will be held from 2-5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in North Bay Cemetery, in the Spring.
