Edward H. Relyea Sr., 81, of Canastota

CANASTOTA>> Edward Hammond Relyea Sr., 81, of Oxbow Road, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Aug. 13, 1935 at home in the Town of Sullivan, a son of Clinton and Agnes Isabelle Blair Relyea and received his education in local schools. Edward proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1954 to 1957 and received the National Defense and the Good Conduct Medals. On Aug. 2, 1958, he married Donna L. Weismore in Peterboro. Edward worked at Oneida Ltd. in Sherrill until retiring. He had also worked at The Fort in Morrisvill­e and he enjoyed spending quality time there. He loved to travel and was an avid camper.

Edward was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Canastota. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League and a supporter of Toys for Tots.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Donna; his children, Edward H. Relyea Jr. of North Carolina, Zachery and Mildred Relyea of Canastota, Suzy and John Soule of Cazenovia, Sandra and Dennis Rhom of North Carolina, Kevin and Gee Relyea of Cold Brook, Donald and Laura Relyea of Morrisvill­e, Stephanie and Scott Pylman of Lebanon; 22 grandchild­ren; 22 great-grandchild­ren; several nieces and nephews; and his special companions, Sadie and Willow. He was predecease­d by a son, Larry Relyea; a sister, Ann Nestved; and three brothers, Francis, Robert and John Relyea.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisvill­e, followed by interment with military honors in the Village View Cemetery, Morrisvill­e.

Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
