CANASTOTA >> Thomas J. Sanborn, 71, of 144 S. Court St., Canastota, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the VA Medical Center, Syracuse, following a brief illness.

He was born on March 25, 1946 in Oneida, son of John T. Sanborn and Catherine Kampf.

Tom graduated from Oneida High School.

He married Sandra Kay Murray on Aug. 28, 1965, in Canastota.

Tom was a veteran of the US Army.

He loved camping and spending time with his family and especially his grandchild­ren.

Tom worked for Marion Manor Estates in Verona for several years prior to his retirement.

He was a member of the Fyler Community Church in Kirkville, the Verona VFW Post No. 6811 and the Canastota American Legion Post No. 140.

Surviving besides his wife, Sandra, are: one daughter, Shelley S. Sanborn and her companion Rich Matt of Kirkville; he was predecease­d by a son, Thomas J. Sanborn Jr. on Nov. 20, 2005. Tom is, also, survived by a daughter-in-law, Jennifer A. and her husband Neil Robinson of Liver- pool; two beloved grandchild­ren, Zachary T. Sanborn and Alexander T. Sanborn, both of Liverpool; four brothers and three sistersin-law, Edward and Laurie Sanborn of Munnsville, Donald Sanborn of Chittenang­o, Jerry and Lorraine Sanborn of Munnsville, Gary and Laurie Snyder of Arizona; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandra and James Zeller of Oneida, and Colleen Marshall of Verona; also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins especially acknowledg­ing Jeanette (Doug) Loucks of Canastota and a sisterin-law, Marlene Poppleton of Canastota.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. The Rev. William M. Wilcox of the Fyler Community Church will officiate. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lenox Rural Cemetery with Military Honors.
