New York State Police mark 100th anniversary
The Troop D barracks in Oneida will hold an open house April 29from 1-5p.m. to celebrate the milestone.
ONEIDA, N.Y. >> For 100 years, the New York State Police has worked to ensure the safety of the state’s roadways, prevent and investigate crime, prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters, and provide support to other law enforcement agencies.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Division of State Police, The New York State Police would like to invite the public to attend an open house on Saturday, April 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Troop D Headquarters in Oneida. The open house will feature a variety of old and new State Police vehicles and equipment, including the S.O.R.T Bearcat armored vehicle, vintage patrol cars, equipment that troopers use in their daily work, as well as demonstrations by the K-9 unit.
Guests will have the opportunity to tour the Forensic Investigation Center, watch the Special Operations Response Team in action, and young attendees will get a chance to suit-up in a trooper’s uniform, sit in a patrol car and meet McGruff the Crime Dog.
Food will be provided by Dinosaur Bar-B-Que for purchase.
A State Police recruiter will be available to answer any questions about the upcoming State Police exam which is scheduled for October of 2017. Anyone who is interested in applying can go to our website www.NYTrooper.com
Troop D Headquarters is located on State Route 5, (261 Genesee Street) in the City of Oneida.
Free parking will be available at the Oneida City High School, located on Seneca Street and Dreamcatcher Plaza located on Rt.5 next to Troop D Headquarters. There will be shuttle busses to and from the event.
