William J. Meyers, 94, of Ocala, Fla.

OCALA, FLA. >> William John “Bill” Meyers, 94, of Ocala, formerly of Lebanon, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 in Ocala.

He was born April 9, 1922 in Utica, N.Y., son of Bertha Pratt Meyers. On Dec. 31, 1942, William married Lucile Helbling in Tacoma, Wash. Bill joined the U.S. Army in 1941, serving as a paratroope­r in the 82nd Airborne Division.

Following WWII, he continued his career in the U.S. Air Force until retiring in 1964 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following that, he worked for Kaiser Steel in Fontana, Calif. for 18 years.

He had lived in New York, Maine, California, spending the last 25 years in Ocala, Fla.

Bill was a member of the American Legion Post No. 236 of Earlville, N.Y.; and the 82nd Airborne Division Associatio­n.

Surviving are his chil- dren, Kathleen Ogle, Sandra (Charles) Golla and Joseph (Audrey) Meyers; nine grandchild­ren, 23 great-grandchild­ren, six great-greatgrand­children; several nieces and nephews; his companion, Helen Parteko; and a sister-inlaw, Jane Meyers.

He was predecease­d by his wife, Lucile Meyers; mother, Bertha Meyers; two sisters, Nina Sullivan and Martha. Riggle; a brother, Fred A Meyers; a son-in-law, Richard Ogle; and a grandson, Kenneth Golla.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in the Earlville Cemetery, Earlville, N.Y.
