John F. White, 85, of Canastota

CANASTOTA >> John Frederick White, age 85, of 400 Lamb Ave., Canastota, died on Monday, April 17, 2017, at Oneida Healthcare, after a brief illness.

John was born in Milton, Mass. on July 11, 1931. He was the son of the late Fred J. and Anna E. (MacIver) White. He was raised in Weymouth, spent many years in Hanover, Mass., retired to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and has currently resided in Canastota.

John provided service to his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following, he worked as a marketing/ sales rep in the field of fire protection systems. He started out at S.H. Couch in Quincy, Mass., and continued with Exide Couch in Randolph, Mass., which eventually became Faraday. John was active in his church, loved going for long walks, cooking, making puzzles, and was an avid card player. He enjoyed photography, birdwatching and doing volunteer work. He had a great sense of humor and always loved a good bargain.

John is survived by his children from his first marriage (to Ann Cleveland Adams), Kathleen Orcutt of Taunton, Mass., Karen Marquet of Wellesley, Mass., John White of Hanover, Mass., Douglas White of Kingston, Mass., and Nancy Haley of Pelham, N.H. John was the grandfather of Al, Eben and Nathan Orcutt; Brendan, Matthew and Patrick Marquet; Sara White; Erin and Michael White; Joseph, Andrew and Kathryn Haley. He also had many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Mary Sly- man of Hingham, Mass.; brother-in-law of Walter Clare; and brother of the late Anna Clare and Dorothy Fitzgerald.

At John’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private service will be followed by interment. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota, N.Y.
