CANASTOTA>> Mary A. Pulverenti, 95, of Canastota, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Northeast Medical Center, Gainesvill­e, Ga., following a brief illness.

She was born on Jan. 1, 1922, in Canastota, a daughter of the late Joseph and Sara (Strano) Tomarchio.

Mary lived in Canastota all of her life, attending the Canastota schools.

She worked at General Electric in Syracuse for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

Mary was a member of St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota, and the Altar Rosary Society.

She was a member of the Electronet­tes at GE, and the Canastota-Lenox Sr. Citizens Club. Mary was a volunteer at the Opportunit­y Shop in Canastota, and St. Agatha’s Bereavemen­t Ministry.

Mary enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing cards, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchild­ren.

She married Sebastian L. “Ned” Pulverenti on Oct. 26, 1940, in Canastota. Ned passed away on Feb. 28, 1999.

Surviving are: two daughters and sons-inlaw, RoseMarie and William Smith of Canastota, and Sara and Daniel Behr of Hoschton, Ga.; two brothers and sistersin-law, Samuel Tomarchio of Spotsylvan­ia, Va., and Anthony and Margaret Tomarchio of Manassas, Va.; sister-in-law, Verna Tomarchio of Canastota; six grandchild­ren, William II and Jerri Smith, Marianne and Roy Eisenhut, Timothy Smith, Kimberly and Greg Sada, Deborah and Brian Burleigh, and Brenda and Tim Hemans; 12 greatgrand­children, William Smith III, Brittany and Holden Marable, Amy Eisenhut, Bradley Eisenhut, Domenic Smith, Celia Sada, Ella Sada, Courtney Burleigh, Gabrielle Burleigh, Logan Burleigh, Joshua Hemans, and Olivia Hemans; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was predecease­d by three brothers, Michael Tomarchio, Angelo Tomarchio, and Joseph Tomarchio; and three sisters, Theresa Laguzzi, Anna Tornatore, and Josephine Sgroi.

Private services will be held at the convenienc­e of the family. The Rev. Anthony F. Tosti will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha’s Cemetery, Canastota. At Mary’s request there will be no calling hours. Arrangemen­ts are under the supervisio­n of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. In her memory, contributi­ons may be made to St. Agatha’s Church, 329 N. Peterboro St., Canastota, N.Y. 13032.
