Holy Cross Academy will host a Visitation Day on Monday, May 15 for students who are registered for the fall or who may be interested in attending in the future.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. and parents may stay for a short presentati­on. Lunch will be provided. Parents may return to pick up their children at 2 p.m. Those planning to attend should call the school at (315) 363-1669. Afternoon Book Club

The Open Afternoon Book Club at Cazenovia Public Library will meet Wednesday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in the Story Garden Room. The group will discuss the New York Times 2016 Notable Book, “Everybody’s Fool” by Richard Russo.

The novel is a sequel to Russo’s 1993 work, “Nobody’s Fool.” The narrative follows the lives of several characters in the fictional North Bath, N.Y. over the course of Memorial Day weekend.

May events

The Morrisvill­e Public Library has scheduled its May events as follows:

The Book Talk group will meet to discuss “Dead Wake” by Erik Larson on Wednesday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. Copies are available at the library.

The library’s Board of Trustees will meet Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s program room. The public is welcome to attend.

Historian and author Judy Lyrek will present “Historical Houses in the Hamlet of Eaton” on Friday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Kiddies Corner is held Tuesdays through May 23 at 10 a.m. with stories and crafts for preschool children.

Garage/household sale

Verona First Presbyteri­an Church, corner of Main Street and Rock Road in Verona, will hold a garage and household sale on Thursday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The sale will feature an assortment of gently used household items including books, jewelry, bedding and kitchen items. Lunch will be served offering homemade soup and chili.

Cazenovia Garden Club

The Cazenovia Garden Club Spring Plant Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 18 at Memorial Park on Albany Street in Cazenovia.

Perennials, annuals, hanging baskets, herbs and vines will be available. The profits from the sale will be used for the summer planting throughout the village. Beautifica­tion of the Cazenovia area is the primary goal of the club.

Greeting card workshop

The Cazenovia Public Library invites you to join Jeanette Robertson for a seasonal greeting card workshop for adults. The two-hour program will be held Friday, May 19 at 10 a.m. in the Community Room. Participan­ts then choose from an assortment of greetings to complete their cards.

Jeanette Robertson is a local watercolor and pencil artist who has been published in books, magazines and greeting cards for more than 20 years. She is also the author of three books. Jeanette has presented art workshops at the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Maryland Arts Academy, the Chautauqua Institute, the Village Lifelong Learning College and other prestigiou­s prints.

Participan­ts are asked to bring double-sided tape and colored pencils from home if available. All other materials will be provided. Class size is limited to 12 participan­ts. Stop by or call the library to register for the class.

Musicians for Shriners

The Kallet Civic Center will be the venue for an upcoming Musicians for Shriners benefit concert on Sunday, May 21 from noon to 6 p.m.

Featured bands are The Paul Case Band, Moss Back Mule Band, Showtime and Classified. The Big Easy Duo will also perform on acoustic guitar. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with bands starting at noon.

Proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 non-profit medical facilities across North America. Children younger than 18 who have orthopedic conditions, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, and/or burns are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environmen­t, regardless of their ability to pay.

Tickets are $5 each and are available at the door. Anyone wishing to donate money or items for raffles should call Randy Richmond, event coordinato­r, at (315) 272-6341.

Brush pick up scheduled

The City of Sherrill brush and green waste pick up takes place every other Monday through Oct. 23. Remaining dates are May 22, June 5, June 19, July 3, July 17, July 31, Aug. 14, Aug. 28, Sept. 11, Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and Oct. 23.

Please do not place waste at curb prior to the weekend before the scheduled Monday pick up. Brush and green waste reminders include: brush and green waste piles shall be free of any garbage, soil, rocks, animal waste, lumber, debris, inorganic matter; NOT be placed in any type of bag, twine, basket, rope, container, wire, barrel; brush must be less than 6’ long and 4” wide.

Canalside Talk

The next Canalside Talk sponsored by the Canastota Canal Town Museum and Canastota Public Library will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 at the library.

The program is titled “An Erie Canal Boat Captain.” Come and share stories and adventures of the “Old Erie Canal” with Michele Henry of Chittenang­o, who will be acting as a canal boat captain.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshmen­ts will be served.

Free movie

The next Wednesday Movie Matinee at Sullivan Free Library will be shown on May 24. Due to the book sale, there will be no movie on May 17.

“Dylan-esque” to perform

The Earlville Opera House will host an evening with “Dylan-esque” indie-folk singer-songwriter Joe Pug on Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m. The event marks the kick-off of the EOH 2017 Main Stage season, featuring such artists as Chris Thomas King, Peter Yarrow and Carrie Rodriguez, among others.

Pug will perform in the EOH Arts Cafe on Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 general admis- sion, $30 for members and $18 for students. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Senior Ball and Party

Members of the Cazenovia High School Class of 2017 are planning their June 2 ball. A group of parent volunteers are organizing an After Ball Party to be held at the Cazenovia Sports Bowl immediatel­y following the ball.

The goal of the After Ball Party is to provide a safe, chaperoned and substancef­ree place for the graduates to continue to be together and to have fun after the ball ends at 11 p.m. All seniors and their guests are invited to attend the afterparty free of admission, regardless of whether they attend the dance.

The after-party has been successful in past years thanks to the parents, grandparen­ts, friends and local businesses. Donations are needed as soon as possible to plan for decoration­s, food, refreshmen­ts, entertainm­ent, gifts and door prizes.

25th Annual Civil War Weekend

Advance sale tickets for the 25th Annual Peterboro Civil War Weekend are still on sale, with 500 adult tickets available at half-price until gone. The cost is $5 per ticket, with a maximum of 25 tickets per order.
