‘Dylan-esque’ Indie-folk with Joe Pug May 26

-

The singer-songwriter comes to Southern Madison County as the kickoff act for the EOH’s 2017season.

EARLVILLE, N.Y. >> The Earlville Opera House will host an evening with “Dylan- esque” indie-folk singer-songwriter Joe Pug on Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m.

The event marks the kickoff of the EOH’s 2017 Main Stage season, featuring such artists as Chris Thomas King, Peter Yarrow, and Carrie Rodriguez, among others.

After dropping out of college and taking on work as a carpenter in Chicago, Pug got his musical start by providing CDs for his fans to pass along to their friends. This led to a string of sold out shows and a record deal with Nashville indie Lightning Rod Records. Having nearly given up the business after relentless touring, Pug returned to the studio in 2014, resulting in 2016’s “Windfall.”

Pug has collected plenty of the requisite Dylan comparisons over his young career but on this record it’s easier to hear the sway of more contemporary influences like Ryan Adams and M.Ward. On “Windfall,” Pug’s aim was simple: to capture “the music just the way we play it, with minimal production. It was a very back to basics approach because ultimately that’s what I love about music, and that’s what I love about making music.”

Tickets are $35 general, $30 members, and $18 students/youth. Premium seating applies in the first four rows. The EOH Theater is wheelchair-accessible with a ramp and a lift.

For more information, or to reserve your seats, call 315- 691-3550 or order online at www.earlvilleoperahouse.com. The Opera House is located at 18 E. Main St., Earlville.
