Most school budgets pass

DeRuyter considerin­g options after failing to get supermajor­ity vote

School budget votes are nearly in across the across the state following a day at the polls.

In Madison County, DeRuyter Central School is the only district to report a failed budget thus far. Though the proposed 2017-18 budget did receive a majority of the votes (202 to 156), the district was proposing a tax levy increase above what New York allows, and therefore, it needed to pass the budget with 60 percent approval or greater. The DeRuyter Board of Education met Wednesday night to decide the next course of action.

Stockbridg­e Valley Central School voters passed the school’s $10.25 million budget 115 to 21. For the board of education, Kristin Guinto earned 109 votes and Tom Hollingswo­rth earned 115 votes.

Madison Central School District voters approved the school’s $10.08 million budget 91 to 46. They also passed a $115,574 school bus propositio­n 98 to 38. For the board of education, Steven Yancey earned 107 votes, Steven Dodge earned 71 votes, and William Langbein earned 66 votes.

Morrisvill­e- Eaton Central School District voters passed the district’s $15.94 million 228 to 38. They also passed a $259,024 school bus propositio­n 228 to 40. For the board of education, Steven Broedel earned 197 votes, Murry Ames earned 186 votes,

and Mary Morris earned 123 votes.

Hamilton Central School District voters approved the district’s $12.58 million budget 339 to 61, as well as a $180,000 school bus propositio­n 318 to 83. A $126,224 library propositio­n passed 335 to 66. For the board of education, Harold D. Jarcho earned 294 votes, Ellen Larson earned 252 votes, and Travis Ames earned 185 votes.

Oneida City School District voters passed a $44.23 million budget 354 to 125. A $106,500 school bus lease passed 366 to 112. For the board of education, Robert Group earned 386 and Me- linda Bowe earned 385.

Cazenovia Cent ral School voters approved a $28.43 million 385 to 62, a $438,895 bus propositio­n 400 to 48, and a $566,221 public library propositio­n 386 to 63. For the board of education, Jan Woodworth earned 365 votes and Leigh Baldwin earned 368 votes.

Vernon-Verona- Sherrill Central School District voters passed a $36.58 million 341 to 87.

Chittenang­o Central School District voters approved a $37.89 million budget 392 to 39.

Brookfield Central School District voters approved an $11.74 million budget 116 to 21.

Canastota Central School District voters passed a $29.51 million budget 415 to 127.
