Observances continue today through Tuesday
ONEIDA, N.Y. >> Several local groups helped the City of Oneida honor the memory of those lost in service to their country on Friday as part of the 2017 Memorial Day Parade.
Oneida Memorial Committee awarded first and second places trophies were awarded to the following participants in the parade:

Observances continue today, Monday and Tuesday throughout Central New York. The following is a brief listing.
Canastota
On Monday, May 29 the fol-
lowing events will be held:
8 a.m.: VFW Military Honors at Lenox Rural Cemetery.
9 a.m.: A.L. Military Honors at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
10 a.m.: Parade step off fromRoberts Street School.
11 a.m.: Memorial Day ceremonies at Clark Park, featuring guest speaker, USN Chief Warrant Officer 5 Ron Herb, the Canastota High School Band, the Community Choir, Roll Call of Community’s War Dead, Placing Wreaths for the War Dead, invocation and benediction by the Rev. Thomas Burgess, and a Memorial Day Tribute by fourth grade students at Canastota schools.
2:15 p.m.: Open house and refreshments at American Legion Post 140.
Cazenovia
The Commander of the Cazenovia American Legion Post 88, Richard Benner, invites the community to Memorial Park on Albany Street on Monday, May 29 to participate in the observance of Memorial Day.
The Legion’s color guard will step off the parade to Memorial Park from the corner of Emory Avenue and Forman Street in front of the high school at 10:30 a.m. rain or shine. Parade groups should start lining up at 10 a.m.
All veterans are welcome and encouraged to march. Veterans needing transportation to the parade and/or a ride in the parade should call Gene Gissin, (315) 6552224 or John Colligan, (315) 655-2233 to make arrangements.
The parade will rest at Memorial Park at 11 a.m. where Post 88 Commander Richard Benner will be the Master of Ceremonies. Joining him for a Chaplain’s moment of prayer and reflection will be Post 88 Chaplain Al Keilen.
Guest speaker will be Retired Navy Commander Owen Corpin of Peterboro.
All parade participants are invited to the Cazenovia Fire House for a light lunch after the parade.
Other events for this Memorial Day include:
At 12:30 p.m. a memorial service will also be held by Post 88 members in their Garden of Honor located in front of the post home at 26 Chenango St.
Veterans who wish to participate in the 8 a.m. Erieville Memorial Day parade should meet at 6:45 a.m. at Dave’s Diner for breakfast and coordination.
Chittenango
Memorial Day services for the William H. Cain American Legion on May 29 begin with a 10 a.m. Prayer and Rifle Salute at the Catholic Cemetery and a 10:30 a.m. Prayer and Rifle Salute at Oakwood Cemetery. At 11 a.m. there will be a service at the post with guest speaker Sgt. Jason Jarecki from the 224th Air Defense Squadron at Rome. Following the service there will be an open house at the post featuring a concert by the Chittenango Central School Dixieland Band.
Durhamville
The Durhamville (ANM) Veterans Club will hold its annual Memorial Day ser- vice beginning at 9 a.m. at the World War I Monument at Triangle Park, corner of Church and Broad streets. Immediately following will be a service of remembrance at the clubhouse at the corner of Canal and John Street. Guest speaker will be Capt. Timothy Lukacz, United States Army. Following the service, the public is invited inside the clubhouse for refreshments.
Munnsville
The Munnsville American Legion Post 54 will hold its annual Memorial Day parade on Sunday, May 28. The parade will step off at 1 p.m. from the fire house and will end at Carlin Field. TheMemorial Day service will take place immediately following the parade at Carlin Field. All are encouraged to attend to honor deceased veterans.

The Sherrill Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday, May 29 at 9 a.m. with a ceremony to follow and an open house at the Legion afterwards.
Vernon
The Village of Vernon Memorial Day Parade will take place Monday, May 29 beginning at 11 a.m.
Wampsville
Madison County War Veterans will hold a Memorial Day ceremony on Tuesday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial-Monument in front of the county courthouse. Guest speaker will be Ret. Navy Captain Carl Albrecht.
