Donald R. Everhart, 93, of Kenwood
KENWOOD>> Donald R. “Cork” Everhart, age 93, of Chapel Street passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, May 24, 2017 in the Oneida Healthcare Center after a brief stay.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1923 in Oneida, N.Y. a son of the late Irving and Bessie (Brooks) Everhart. Don was a graduate of V.V.S. Central School, received his bachelor’s degree from Brockport State College and his master’s degree from Cortland State College.
“Cork” proudly served his country during W.W. II with the United State Air Force.
On June 21, 1951 Don and Dolores “Dee” Sterritt were united in marriage at the Manlius Baptist Church and have shared this loving union of nearly 66 years together.
“Cork” had a long and extensive career with the V.V.S. Central School System serving as Principal teacher at the Durhamville Elementary School, V.V.S. Central School and retired Principal teacher in 1978 from E.A. McAllister Elementary School of Sherrill.
His civic involvement included, past Director of the Madison Co. Head Start Program, City of Oneida Councilman, life member of the Silver City Club, Durhamville Vets Club, Principal Teacher organizations both at the national and state levels and was a past V.V.S. basketball coach.
Cork was an athletic guy all his life who loved golfing, skiing, tennis and many winters with his wife in Florida. He was a member of the Oneida Community Golf Course for 65 years.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Dee; two daughters and sons-inlaw, Susan and Donald Wimmer of Canastota and Linda and Andrew Lehmann of Limerick, Maine; two granddaughters, Erin Lehmann-Wilkins of Rhode Island and Alexandra (Michael) Mobley of North Carolina; five greatgrandchildren, Emma Wilkins, Hadley Wilkins, Hayden Mobley, Samantha Mobley and Sophia Mobley and many nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his mother and father, Bessie and Irving Everhart, his brother Walter Everhart and his daughter, Karen Everhart.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oneida Health Care for their support during this difficult time.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 417 Park St., Sherrill, N.Y. Don’s funeral service will be at 5 p.m. immediately following callings hours at the church with the Rev. Robert Kolvik-Campbell officiating.
Following the service, friends and family are welcome to join us to celebrate Don’s life at Lakeview Restaurant Bar (at Oneida Community Golf Course in Kenwood). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Christ Church United Methodist of Sherrill or the Oneida Healthcare Center.
Graveside burial will be on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. in West Verona Cemetery, Verona, N.Y. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home, Sherrill, N.Y. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
