Margaret Patricia ‘Pat’ Orcutt, 89, of Durhamvill­e

DURHAMVILL­E >> Margaret Patricia Orcutt, 89, devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r and greatgrand­mother of Foster Corners Road, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 in the Oneida Healthcare Center, after a brief illness.

Born in Oneida on Oct. 13, 1927, she was the daughter of George and Nora (Murphy) Colway. Her father was a barber and her mother was a homemaker and Pat, as she was known, grew up during the Depression, with her four siblings, George “Wally”, Paul, Charles and Rita. A lifelong resident of the area, she attended St. Patrick’s School and was an honors graduate of the Oneida High School, at the age of sixteen. She married her high school sweetheart, John Louis Orcutt in St. Patrick’s Church on Aug. 30, 1947. Mr. Orcutt died Nov. 6, 1998 following fifty-one years of marriage and raising twelve children.

Prior to her retirement, Pat was employed with the Oneida City Schools as the secretary at the high school and prior to raising her family was a clerk-typist at Griffiss Air Force Base. She was a devout Catholic as communican­t of St. Patrick’s Church and more recently at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, a member of the Altar Rosary Society, the St. Patrick’s Mothers Club, and in her retirement, enjoyed swimming laps and attending water aerobics classes at the Tri-Valley YMCA. Her enjoyment and love was doing crossword puzzles, reading mysteries and feeding her big noisy family.

Surviving are her six daughters, Roxann T.(Joseph DeSantis) Moore of New York Mills, Christine K. (Joseph Joseph) Orcutt of Utica, Barbara (Robert) Flores of Green Valley, Ariz, Patricia (Richard) Hubbard of Cazenovia, Maureen (Joseph) Marris of Buffalo and Gene E. (William Barley) Orcutt of Durhamvill­e; four sons, Stephen J. (Ailton de Mendonca Filho) of Durhamvill­e and Sarasota, Flor., Mark J. (Catherine) of Toronto, O.N., Thomas C. (Lisa Hogan) of Syracuse, Andrew W. (Maria) of Naples, Flor.; thirtyfive grandchild­ren; eleven great grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by one son, John H. Orcutt in 2012; one daughter, Constance P. Orcutt in 2007; one grandson, Brian Moore; one great grandson, Palmer Moore; her sister, Rita Colway and three brothers, Wallace, Charles and Paul Colway.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m Friday, July 14, 2017, from St. Helena’s Church, Sherrill where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend William Mesmer, pastor. Interment will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributi­ons may be made to the Golisano Children’s Hospital, 1 Children’s Circle, Syracuse, N.Y. 13210.
