Kids really loved fishing derby

On Saturday, May 20 was the Kids Fishing Derby in Sherrill, N.Y. There were 133 children that signed up to fish with 50 fish caught ranging from five inches up to eleven inch long and two turtles caught they were 16 inches and 22 inches long.

The derby is run on donations it gets every year, raffle ticket money and from donation at the derby. The derby is for any child 15 years old and younger. The derby is free to attend. Every child that signed up got a door prize and a fishing goody bag and a candy goody bag. There were free hot dogs, soda, juice and snack for everyone .

Thank you to all that donated to the derby this year it was greatly appreciated and to those that sold tickets. Thank you to all that bought raffle tickets.

Donations we got this year are from Malecki Funeral Home, Evans Insurance Agency, Lambs Construction Inc., Kurt A. Gormley Dentistry, Klem’s Kollison, Sherrill Post 230 Sal, Sherrill Post 230 Auxiliary, International Wire, Community Car Wash, John Froass and Son Inc., Mike Gifford, Pete and Jackie Bortle, The Corner Diner, anonymous donors, and Linda and Lou Usborne. Herb Philipson’s donated three gift cards used as grand prizes. City of Sherrill Commissioner Pat Hubbard donated boy and girl razor scooter that were raffled off for free to the child to enter to win. YMCA donated a one month trial family membership that we raffled off for free for the child to enter to win. Darla’s Place donated a $10 gift certificate to her business that was used as a grand prize. East Shore Bait and Tackle LLC donated 35 fishing jigs that were handed out with the grand prizes. Thank you to all the that volunteered your time with helping set up, clean up, measuring the fish, signing the children in, announcing, cooking the hotdogs, and bring the derby stuff to the pole barn and back home.
