Camp Lookout to host open house
Nestled away in Southern Madison County, Camp Lookout has long served as an outpost for Madison County children in want of a week away from home during the dog days of summer.
Hundreds of campers have had the opportunity to spend a week camping along the Bradley Brook Reservoir during Camp Lookout’s history, and on Saturday, June 10 those campers are invited back for a reunion and public open house as the Madison County Children’s Camp kicks off another summer season.
The community at large is encouraged to come and see what Camp Lookout offers the youth of Madison County. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be free food, music, raffles and tours of the cabins and grounds. Staff will also be on hand to answer questions and share the fun of a week at camp. They invite you to stop in and learn about this life-changing experience.
Camp Lookout is located on
Bradley Brook Reservoir in the Town of Eaton and serves children from all over Madison County. The camp offers fun, educational and safe activities that help children understand their importance in the community and develops life skills necessary for positive productive relationships.
Throughout the course of the summer, Camp Lookout opens its cabins to some 600 Madison County children at no cost to the families of the campers. Funding for each camper - $180 per camper per week - is raised through grants and donations, which can be used as tax writeoffs.
Originally founded in 1922 as a camp for children affected by tuberculosis, Camp Lookout now seeks to meet both the physical and emotional needs of campers. Children invited to attend Camp Lookout come from families who are low income or faced with a variety of other challenges, providing youths with a camping opportunity they may not have otherwise, according to the camp website.
