ROCHESTER » Edward L. Simson, 92, passed away in Rochester, N.Y. on May 31, 2017. Formerly of Oneida and Durhamvill­e, he was born on June 10, 1924, in Oneida, N.Y., a son of Leland L. Simson and Olive Elliot Simson. He attended Redfield Union School, graduating in 1942. On June 1, 1946, he married Ina M. Teeman. She passed away on March 13, 2004. He was employed with New York Telephone as an installer/ repair tech for 35 years, retiring in 1981. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II with the 896th Signal Depot Aviation Unit, European Operations, from 1943-1945. He was a member of the Oneida American Legion Post 169, the Durhamvill­e Vet’s Club, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Communicat­ion Workers of America Union No. 1226 of Utica.

Mr. Simson is survived by six sons, John Simson, Fayettevil­le, N.Y., Jay and Terry Simson, Van Wert, Ohio, Fred Simson, San Diego, Calif., Charles and Libby Sim- son, Vernon, N.Y., Edward (Boon) and Eileen Simson, Chandler, Ariz. and Clark Simson, Liverpool, N.Y.; and two daughters, Marian Louk, Irondequoi­t, N.Y. and Meredith and Dean Croucher, Newark, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Mary Simson of North Syracuse. He is also survived by 10 grandchild­ren and six great-grandchild­ren. He was predecease­d by one brother, Elliot Simson and two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marian and Charles Lamb and Phyllis and Russell Rawhauser.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, corner of Main and Grove streets, Oneida, N.Y., with the Rev. Kenneth Guilfoyle officiatin­g. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at the Coolican-McSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida. Interment will be West Verona Cemetery, Verona, N.Y., with full military honors.
