Fill the Boot success

-

On Saturday, June 3, the Oneida Paid Firefighters Association Local 2692 supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association by holding the annual “Fill the Boot” drive located at the entrance to Walmart. This year celebrates a 63 year partnership between the International Association of Fire Fighters and the MDA.

IAFF support for MDA began in 1954 when the organization committed by proclamation to support MDA until a cure is found, and the organization’s unwavering commitment to MDA has remained strong to this day. The IAFF raised $100,000 for MDA in 1955, and $1 million in 1970, and fire fighters continue to raise the bar in their fundraising efforts. In 2015, more than 100,000 fire fighters participated in Fill the Boot events across the country and raised $25.5 million. To date the IAFF has raised $585.5 million for MDA.

We would like to thank everyone who supported the MDA by coming out and filling our boots. Thanks to your support, for the first time ever, we raised and exceeded our goal for a total of $5110.79. A special thank you to Goff Family Chiropractic of Sherrill for their generous donation in helping us exceed our goal. It is still not too late to donate. You can drop off donations at the fire station anytime.

We would also like to thank Kristin of the local MDA office for her help in coordination of the event. As always, thank you to Kenny and his parents for coming out and supporting us for the afternoon.

With this year’s success, our Local is looking forward to next year’s “Fill the Boot”
