Donald T. Vrooman, 80, of Verona

VERONA » Donald T. Vrooman, age 80, of Merry Street passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2017 in the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1936 in Canajoharie, N.Y. a son of the late Willard and Bertha (Cross) Vrooman and was a graduate of the Canajoharie Schools. Don later graduated from Brockport College with his bachelor’s degree and re- ceived his master’s degree from Ithaca College in education.

On Feb. 14, 1959 Don and Nola E. Hastie were united in marriage in Brockport, N.Y. and shared that loving union of 50 years together until Nola’s death on Feb. 16, 2009.

Prior to his retirement Don was a physical education teacher and coach at V.V.S. Central School.

In his spare time Don enjoyed fishing and hunting. He found great joy in being a physical education teacher and enjoyed coaching his students.

Surviving are his two sons, Alan Vrooman of Verona and Robert and daughter-in-law Kelly Vrooman of Vernon; a foster son, Stephen Keller of Florida; grandchildren, Sara, Bradley, Samantha, Kara, Carlee, Bobby, Alicia, Ammie, Coleen and Brett.

Don was predeceased by his parents, wife Nola, two sons, Barry Vrooman and Steven Vrooman.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sun- day, June 25, 2017 from 2-5 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon, N.Y. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following calling hours. Burial will be Monday, June 26, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in Verona Cemetery, Verona, N.Y.
