Charlene Frances Bhuiyan, 55, of Vernon

VERNON » Charlene Frances Bhuiyan (Hoffman) of Vernon, N.Y., passed away unexpected­ly on the morning of June 23, 2017 at the age of 55.

She was born the daughter of Francis and Alice (Richmond) Hoffman in Oneida, N.Y., on Jan. 5, 1962. She graduated from VernonVero­na-Sherrill High School in 1980 and went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from SUNY Oneonta in 1984. She met the love of her life, Farid Bhuiyan, in the Fall of 1985, and they married on Oct. 25, 1986.

She began a career teaching pre-school in New York City, eventually moving back to the VVS area to be closer to her family. She continued her career in education as a pre-school teacher in Sylvan Beach, N.Y. In 1992, she began working for the Oneida County Department of Social Services, where she dedicated 25 years to helping those in need.

She was an active member of the Vernon Holy Family Catholic Church. Char enjoyed spending time with her family and found happiness in making people smile. She was always willing to do for others and go out of her way to ensure that her friends and family knew how deeply they were loved. Her sense of humor and bright smile will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Charlene was predecease­d by her father and mother, Francis and Alice Hoffman of Vernon. She is survived by her husband, Farid Bhuiyan of Vernon; daughters Tania Davis (Bhuiyan) of Vernon and Alicia Bhuiyan of New Hartford; her siblings Susan Teachout of North Carolina, Betty Tuttle of Hamilton, Sandra Borys of Sherrill, Charles and Anne Hoffman of Florida, John Hoffman of Oneida, and Michael and Heidi Hoffman of Vernon. Charlene is also survived by her grandson and “little buddy,” Jamisyn Davis, her brother and sister in-laws Kafil Bhuiyan of Virginia, Zahir Bhuiyan of Connecticu­t, Nahid Bhuiyan of Connecticu­t, Nasreen Akhtar of Bangladesh, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In keeping with Charlene’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial in celebratio­n of Charlene’s life will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Peterboro Street, Vernon, N.Y.
